Permit Information and Forms

Building Permits are required for all new buildings, building additions, certain interior renovations, roofs, windows, fences and a number of other projects. If you are unsure whether your project needs a permit please contact the Building Division at 708 499 7800. To download a permit application click on the appropriate link on the right. Building Permits are issued by the Building Division located in the lower level of Village Hall.

Building Inspections

Scheduling a Building Inspection
To schedule a building inspection by phone call 708-499-7800, or come to lower level of Village Hall. Please do not leave inspection requests on voice mail, as there is no guarantee the request will be received. Inspectors will not take inspection requests in the field. Please note that B&F Technical Services assists the Village with Building Inspections and inspectors may identify themselves as such.

Requesting an Inspection
When requesting an inspection please provide the following information:

  • Permit number
  • Address (building site)
  • Business name (if applicable)
  • Type of Inspection
  • Date and time
  • Phone number of requester

Inspections must be completed and approved before work on a project continues.

Electrical and Plumbing Inspections

Electrical inspections are conducted on Tuesday and Thursday between the hours of 3pm and 7pm. To schedule an electrical inspection call 708-499-7803 at least 24 hours in advance of the requested inspections date.

Elevator Inspections

Thompson Elevator Inspection Service to conduct all semi-annual elevator inspections on behalf of the Village of Oak Lawn.

Health and Sanitation Inspections Relating to a Building Project

To schedule a Health inspection call 708-499-7820.

Fire Department Inspections Relating to a Building Project

To schedule an Inspection by the Fire Department call 708-499-7810

Finalizing Your Permit
All permits require a final inspection for approval.
