Building Technical Codes
The City of Austin's Building Technical Codes (Chapter 25-12), contain regulations for Building, Electric, Fire, Property Maintenance, Mechanical, Plumbing, Residential, and Solar Energy.

Residential Design & Compatibility Standards
The Residential Design and Compatibility or "McMansion" regulations, were designed to minimize the impact of new construction, remodels, and additions to existing buildings on surrounding properties in residential neighborhoods by defining an acceptable building area for each lot within which new development may occur.
Rule Postings and Technical Criteria Manuals
The City of Austin's Technical Criteria Manuals were created to interpret and specify the requirements established in the Land Development Code (Volumes 3 & 4 of the City's Code of Ordinances).

Land Development Code (Title 25)
Chapters 25-1 thru 25-13 regulate development within the City's planning and zoning jurisdiction.
Chapter 25-12 (Technical Codes) - As of September 16, 2013, the City of Austin will follow the 2012 International Residential Code. Chapter 25-12 includes local amendments to the International Residential Code.
Land Development Code (Title 30)
Austin/Travis County Subdivision Regulations (Title 30) - Regulations apply to the subdivision of land in the portion of the City of Austin's extraterritorial jurisdiction that is within Travis County, including the areas that the city has annexed for limited purposes.
